About Theraplay® Family Therapy

Sessions with a Theraplay® Practitioner consist of guiding the parent and child through fun and playful activities that foster engagement and connection. The act of engagement is what allows the parent and child to form a secure attachment. With that healthy relationship, the parent is able to regulate their child’s behaviour while communicating love, joy, and safety to the child. Theraplay helps the child feel secure, connected, cared for, and worthy.

Theraplay is similar to play-therapy, but is focused on a caregiver led process. Sessions would be 1 hour of Theraplay Practitioners leading the caregiver, through games, playful challenges, and nurturing activities. The goal is to develop a secure attachment between the caregiver and child. Theraplay is not talk therapy.
